Functional Capacity Evaluation

Functional Capacity Evaluation

The purpose of the functional capacity evaluation (FCE) is to determine a worker’s capacity over a range of physical demands, in order to make recommendations for participation in work and specific duties available to the worker.

The Physiotherapists at Body Corporate Physiotherapy are formally trained in Functional Capacity Evaluations, and are formally certified in the PWPE ErgoScience FCE system.

The functional capacity evaluation includes:

  • A self-reported ability and pain assessment
  • Review of medical information (including co-morbidities and their impact safe work abilities)
  • Clinical assessment
  • Assessment of the worker’s functional abilities to perform the physical demands of the proposed job(s) and determine whether the worker has the capacity to undertake these demands
  • Identification of potential return to work goals
